Woman Tells of Simply Slim Agony

So said a Western Cape woman who lost 22kg on Simply Slim diet pills.
She recently found out the contents of her capsules were double the strength of the strongest prescription slimming product on the market.
Carla Kotze, 35, of Malmesbury had her Simply Slim tablets tested at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital’s national health laboratory service in Cape Town after sales of the product were banned.
George van der Watt, a chemical pathologist, found her tablets contained respectively 33.2mg and 28.4mg of sibutramine.
The maximum amount of sibutramine that a person is allowed to ingest under doctor supervision is 15mg.
Marketed as herbal remedy
Simply Slim had been marketed as a 100% herbal remedy and was not allowed to contain this schedule 5 drug. Earlier this month, the Medicines Control Council banned further sales of the product.
Kotze started using the product in October last year.
“Within the first six weeks, I lost 13.4kg and wrote of my progress on Facebook.”
Kotze said she had a somewhat dry mouth and lots of energy and slept very little. Simply Slim’s instructions were that she had to give her body some “rest” after six weeks.
“From an absolute high, I fell back to a condition of almost no energy and felt like a zombie.”
Uncontrollable rage
Over the next five weeks, Kotze lost more than 8kg before she started feeling ill.
“I had heart palpitations and it felt as if my lungs were bigger than my chest. One weekend I experienced severe mood swings and felt anxiety.”
“I had uncontrollable rages where I threw and broke things. It wasn’t like me.”
Kotze said she used to be a nursery school teacher with lots of patience but her own child nearly drove her insane.
“People attacked me on Facebook and said I was imagining things and that it was stress. I had my pills tested because I had to know if I was going crazy.”
Kotze stopped taking Simply Slim in January, shortly before she went to the doctor about her symptoms.
Dawn Lubbe, the agent who sold Simply Slim to Kotze, said her supply came from Michelle Strydom, the Simply Slim area manager in the Western Cape. Strydom was not available for comment.
The Simply Slim headquarters insist that its product was tampered with and intends bringing out a new product.

I need to add that all of sudden when Simply Slim was tested positive and instructed stop simply slim by the MCC the facebook group was deleted. Wonder why?

Ek was ook een van daardie persone wat ss kon drink en min simptome ontwikkel – tot verlede Donderdag wat ‘n kollege met my dokter toe moes jaag omdat dit gevoel het of ek ‘n hartaanval kry – aan die bewe gegaan het – needles en pins oor my hele lyf uitgeslaan het! Ek het gebid om te vra dat ek asb nie vandag moet doodgaan nie!
Ek is woedend vir myself omdat ek ss weer na maande begin gebruik het en nie die waarskuwingstekens gesien het nie. Dis 4 dae later en dit voel of ek al my hare uit my kop kan trek omdat my hart nogsteeds nie wil kalmeer nie en die duiseligheid net nie weg wil gaan nie.
Hoe lank gaan hierdie hel nog aanhou en sal ‘n mens ooit weer volkome herstel???

Despite the banning of SS I saw an ad for SS plus contact details in an airline magazine of SA express airline yesterday – Cape Town to Walvisbay on 09/03/2010.Surely these ads should be banned and magazines containing such ads should be withdrawn from the market

One of my clients told me about a lady that died of SS. She lost 4 kg but died about 4 days after starting to use it. Heart attack. A rep. told me that they are going to put the SS on the market again just as is. The original ingredients are going to stay the same. maybe the product will have a new name??
But what one doesn’t disclose, is their lifestyle at the time of taking this tablet. i really feel sorry for all of you…

WE all hope that there is a quick fix, there is not! The bigger the promises the bigger the risk. I am still trying to get my health in order, I seem to be taking three steps forward and two backwards. This last two weeks has been a nightmare for me, I still have the rash (not as bad) I feel sick all the time.
To all users that are hoping to get a refund on SS, think again, the agents are openly saying that SS will not refund and nor will they! I feel so sorry for the sub agents that have been told they are not allowed to try and contact SS. Who the hell do SS think they are?????The bloody mafia?????? They must look behind them….every dog has his day….some more painful then others and Marius Venter and all his crownies are going to have their day…..watch this space!!!!!!!!!

I have been following your blog for quite some time now. My daughter has been on Simply Slim and after all the latest news reports and product recall, I am quite worried. Although she is doing very well and has lost loads of weight, being a mother (even though she is in her 20′s), I am worried as to the long term effects. Does anyone know when this whole fiasco will be aired on Carte Blanche? Whats up with this re-launch of a new Simply Slim?
Geen mens kan weet wat in jou liggaam aangaan nie. Dit is maklik om te se kyk eers of jy die produkte kan gebruik of nie. Mens voel dalk gesond, maar daar kan dalk ‘n onderliggende probleempie wees, wat jy nie eers van weet nie. Dit is SO belangrik om jou liggaam in en uit te ken voordat jy sulke middels neem soos SS en al die maatjies. Al is bevat dit koffie of alkohol. Dit is natuurlik, natuurlik, maar wat se jou liggaam?
Hi Johan i see in the you magazine on the 18 February 2010 on page 76 they r advertising simply slim for sale again how r we going to stop them totally from selling this rubbish and the people must not beleive them until SS can prove it.
Yes,this is my story. My horror story. SS has messed up my life! I’m just so glad,that I’m starting to feel much better now. I’m going for my EKG next week and SS better hope my tests are clear and that I have no permanet damaged done to my heart. If so,I’ll sue them ,for sure!!I have learned not to trust any medication that are NOT given by a Dr. . And to trust my gutt fealings.
